Slow Healing Process

Hope you all had a lovely Valentines Day, be it with your lover or your family, or even if it was just another Friday, hope your day was good. My special part of Valentines day was making my love bacon roses, cause what man doesn’t love bacon, and well traditionally flowers are more for the men to give to the women and I didn’t want to take that away from him.

Today (where I live) it’s family day today! I enjoy this day, because my love gets the day off from work and we get to spend a day together we normally don’t. So today we’ll be doing lots of family stuff, board games etc.

I’m sorry I don’t have much to report on pole, due to my arm I’ve had to take the past couple days off of pole so that I’m able to perform better at my studio on Wednesday. And let me tell you, it’s been killing me! I’m not enjoying the fact I’ve had to take off so much time from pole, let’s hope I never get seriously injured because I can’t imagine taking months off like some people do.

I still have been working on my flexibility though because I don’t want that to go into regression.

I’m looking forward to pilates tomorrow, because I’ve had to take a break from pole I feel like I’ve been super lazy. I haven’t gained any weight from it but that’s because I also have a fairly clean diet. With the exception of ice cream here and there because ice cream is a temptress!

So the other day I had one of those, mysterious pole bruises… You know, those bruises that show up after your day at the studio and you can’t even fathom how you got it! Yup, one of those.

1891236_10152248808912464_1182901635_n

I honestly can’t even think of how I could have possibly gotten it. Too many starfishes? I have no clue. At the moment I’m pretty beaten and bruised from pole, I can’t wait for summer when I have to explain to people where I’m getting my bruises. They’re pretty nasty all over both my legs and my feet.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful day, until tomorrow mes amours!

Be My Valentine?

1620561_10152249949412464_883120738_n

Happy Valentines day lovers! Or happy hallmark day, or even happy Friday. Whatever it may be I just hope you have a wonderful day.

I’ve decided to give up on the video blogs for now, or maybe just do them when I feel like it. At least until I have to cut down on the amount of times I write a week. This will most likely happen during the summer or around September when I head back to school. I feel like right now I have nothing to talk about during the videos without repeating myself since I write this blog 5 days a week right now.

Not to mention it’s super boring around her right now because it’s winter and I am not a winter person. I may be Canadian but dear god I hate the cold. I’m out a lot more during the spring and summer, and even fall, but during the winter I hibernate.

Now I’m not going to lie, I really don’t like Valentines day, not since it pretty much got ruined for me by an ex-boyfriend who broke up with me the day after, and it was a long-time boyfriend which I didn’t have many of, so it was painful. It made me really sour towards this day, but that doesn’t mean I want to ruin it for others, so I try to make it special for my boyfriend as well as my daughter.

I’m not going to be a hipster like half the people I know though and be like “oh you should love whomever every day of the year blah blah blah I’m so hipster blah blah blah” While I think that’s true, at the same time I think it’s very short sited. It’s not that you just love a person the one day of the year, it’s just the one day of the year where you celebrate love. Just like I’m a mother every day of the year, it’s nice to have a day where you celebrate the fact that you are a mother. Amongst all the shit wrong with our world, we need days to celebrate so we’re not always depressed. Although funny enough this is probably one of the most depressing holidays for some people.

Anyways, before we get to the Valentines day stuff, lets talk #FrontSplitsFriday!

picstitch

I’ve really seen progression since starting this challenge and I hope you have too! Don’t for get to hastag #FrontSplitsFriday on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, what ever, I want to see your progression!

Next week I’ll have a side by side comparison of Week 1 and Week 4. So makes sure to watch out for that. I’m excited to see the difference.

Alright now that we’ve got that out of the way lets’ talk Valentines day!

easy valentines day glitter sign 2014 valentines day signs-f95697

I have some wonderful recipes for an EASY romantic dinner for two. First off I’d like to start by saying this is not what I’ll be making for my dinner tonight just because my boyfriend reads my blog because he’s a good boyfriend and I want dinner to be a surprise tonight.

But with that being said, I know my boyfriend will also love this meal so sweetie I will make this at some point for us to eat as well. Love you!

So I know a lot of you are busy, weither you be a mom or work, or are even a working mom. So lets’ do something that can be done in advance so it’s ready to go and the biggest part of your meal is out of the way.

Slow Cooker Baby Back Ribs

1073048

Ingredients

3 pounds of baby back ribs, trimmed

Salt and ground black pepper, to taste

½ cup water

½ onion, sliced

1 clove garlic, minced

1 (18 oz) bottle barbeque sauce

Directions

  1. Season ribs with salt and pepper.
  2. Pour water into slow cooker. Layer the ribs into the slow cooker. Top the ribs with onion and garlic.
  3. Cook on High for 4 hours (or Low for 8 hours).
  4.  Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  5.  Transfer ribs to a baking sheet. Discard onion and garlic. Coat ribs with barbeque sauce.
  6.   Bake in preheated oven until the sauce caramelizes and sticks to the meat, 10 to 15 minutes.

Easy right?

Next we need a side dish, preferably done at the same temperature as the oven needs to be for the ribs.

What better to go with meat than potatoes?

Roasted Rosemary Red Potatoes

409206

Ingredients

6 red potatoes, scrubbed and cut into wedges

3 TBS butter, melted

3 TBS vegetable oil (or coconut oil like I like to use for everything!)

1 TBS chopped rosemary (Fresh is preferred but doesn’t have to be)

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Mix together melted butter and oil, then pour into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Place the potatoes into the dish, and stir until coated. Sprinkle with rosemary, salt, and pepper. Cover with aluminum foil.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. Stir the potatoes occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Don’t forget to include a veggie with your dishes, simple enough something like steamed broccoli and carrots with a little bit of melted butter is perfect for a dinner like this!

And last but most definitely not least, a delicious Valentines day dessert!

Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries

cheesecakeberries

Ingredients

1 lb. big, ripe, fresh strawberries

8 oz. softened Philadelphia Cream Cheese

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs

Directions

1.Wash berries and cut just the top off of each one. Remove centers of strawberries using a paring knife. Gently blot each berry dry and stand them upside down on a paper towel while you prepare the cheesecake filling.

2. Place the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla in a medium size mixing bowl. Using a hand-held electric mixer, whip the ingredients together until completely blended and smooth.

3. Fill the strawberries using a small spoon, butter knife or cake decorating tube. Once filled, dip each berry (cream cheese end) into the graham cracker crumbs.

4. Place berries in a container with a lid and refrigerate until ready to serve. (These are best made and served the same day.)

Another super easy dessert is also to just do chocolate strawberries. A classic but a good one!

So there you go mes amours! A wonderful dinner for you and your love. I hope you all have a wonderful day, love everyone every day but celebrate love today because without it our lives would be empty.

Cross Ankle Death Drop!

Last night was a good pole class, despite the pain in my wrist. I learned to get into the bow and arrow from the cross ankle release, and let me tell you, it takes some major lady balls and some secure shorts. I’m not sure how I’m going to explain this, but lets try!

IMG_20140108_211005

This is the cross ankle release.

From here you have to grab under your butt and hold on for dear life.

You then let yourself drop down with straight arms, which your shorts get stuck on your thumb sometimes and pull your shorts down with them.

And hook a foot onto the pole to wind up in this position.

1013471_10152204091882464_563939295_n

It’s terrifying! Sometimes I have the lady balls for the cross ankle release, and sometimes I don’t. I’m not sure why, just some days I feel like I don’t have the stick for it.

I practiced my superman last night, again I wound up with bruises galore and sore inner thighs but I nearly got it! Once I have it down I’ll stick up a picture of it, because around the end of last year that was definitely a goal move, now I have bigger goals because I like to get ahead of myself!

It’s video day tomorrow, I’ll try not to embarrass myself as much this time. It’s also #FrontSplitsFriday! I’m looking forward to comparing last weeks with this weeks. And next Friday we’ll be comparing the first week with the 4th week to see the real progression!

Sorry about another short post today but my lovely daughter has gymnastics and I have to rush off to that now! But how about to make it up to you guys I leave you with a delicious recipe page full of delicious gluten free recipes!

Click the picture below to go there! Don’t be shy!

And keep an eye out tomorrow for a special valentines day post! Love is in the air mes amours!

Pole Goals for this Year & New Stretch!

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! Hope you’re all having a lovely Wednesday, my favorite day of the week. I have pole tonight at the studio, still a little afraid that my wrist isn’t going to be up to par to do the routine, but I’ll be icing it right before class as well as periodically throughout the day.

Today is new stretch day! And today I found a good stretch from Julia Wahl of YouTube.

Stretch

Julia Wahl of YouTube

Now for this stretch you want to keep your back and leg flat on the ground. If you aren’t flexible enough to grab your leg to pull it back without your leg coming off the ground then grab a belt or a towel and put it around your ankle, and begin to pull back on your leg until you can feel your other leg starting to lift.

Don’t forget to switch and repeat the same with the other leg. Hold each leg for about 30 seconds each.

I think my splits are coming along nicely. Obviously nowhere near where I want them to be, ever since trying jade I’ve wanted to get it properly down.

My other goal move for the year is the Ayesha. I just think it looks so impressive.

MG_9731_72

aerialamy.com

I think one other move I’d like to get down is the allegra. I feel like this is another move that you need good flexibility for.

What are your goal moves for the year? Let me know in the comments below!

I found Waldo! …well… Alex!

First off I’d like to say how I realized just how bad yesterdays’ title of my blog sounded. By “Olympic size mistake” I meant the mistake among the pole community thinking that it was the little girl who was going to be in the Olympics, not that Alex was a mistake. I think his performance, although short, was brilliant. I’m pretty sure it was him, that’s what I’ve been told at least, but I was also told Olga was going to perform, so who knows! I can’t imagine how hard it would be to hold an Iron X for that long, let alone on a moving vehicle!

Secondly…I found it! I went through the opening ceremony again and found Alexandr Magala! Here’s the seriously short video I took of the Canadian coverage of the opening ceremony.

As brief as it was I’m still extremely proud that we had a pole dancer in the Olympics doing a move that advanced pole dancers do!

So I’m having issues with my right forearm and I’m wondering if anyone knows what I can do about it. I know how I did it, it was too many extended butterflies on Friday, which is the picture below.

1475980_10152114229877464_1964637596_n

Also too many starfishes, which in my studio is the below move.

1525414_10152129023347464_1663858612_n

It always hurts my wrist when releasing from that move. I’m not able to hold onto anything hard, or put pressure on my arm right now. It also hurts to carry my daughter because of it. I have pilates tonight and I’m not willing to miss it because I’ve took the last couple days off from exercise because I haven’t been able to do anything. Even typing is hurting! I’m so frustrated with it. Even worse is I have pole on Wednesday and I’m definitely not up for missing that! But I also don’t want to injure myself further.

I think I’ll have to make time to visit my doctors soon, it has even been making hard to sleep because it sends a pain shooting through my forearm. If anyone has any suggestions on how to help ease the pain, I’m am all ears!

Well now, I don’t think I’ve given you guys a recipe in a while, so here’s a special treat for today!

Almost No Sugar Ice Cream Grahamwiches

b1a0a00398e8c26705b989cb7931fa1d

Ingredients

  • Approximately 30 graham crackers, broken in half
  • Large box sugar free Instant Chocolate Pudding
  • 8 ounces sugar free or lite whipped topping*
  • Milk
  • Sprinkles and nuts, optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare pudding with milk, according to package directions. Whip in whipped topping and blend until smooth.
  2. Place a large dollop on a graham cracker and top with another. Dip each side into sprinkles or nuts if desired.
  3. Place in individual zipper seal sandwich bags and freeze until firm.

I’ve made these in the summer time as a healthy alternative to ice cream sandwiches and let me tell you, they are just as delicious. They hit the spot and I could honestly enjoy these any time of the year!

Well let’s see how well pilates goes tonight! Until tomorrow mes amours!

Olympic size mistake. Introducing Alex Magala!

First off today I have to say how disappointed I was watching the Olympics opening ceremony, I didn’t see Olga Trifonova at all, and I watched the full 4 hours of it. Now for weeks prior I have been reading on pole sites everywhere, not to mention I had even seen a post by United Pole Artists, that Olga Trifonova was going to be performing. Now thanks to Facebooks ‘pay for views’ I didn’t see their update that apparently there was another part to Russia’s got talent in which another pole dancer won amazingly, and even more amazingly it was a male pole dancer. Alexandr Magala, born in Moldova, is the first male pole dancer to perform in the Olympics Opening ceremony.

From the Alexandr Magala Facebook fan page. You’re welcome ladies!

So it had already gone viral that Olga Trifonova had won, which don’t get me wrong, she is amazing, especially since she’s only 11, but Alexandr Magala didn’t get near the attention he deserved. Now I’m going to re-watch the 4 hours of opening ceremony and try to find him. It’s like where’s waldo of the Pole dancing world.

It was an amazing opening ceremony though, I enjoyed it fully. The ballet was beautiful and it was just visually stunning.

So I went to Sexapalooza on Saturday, just to roam around and check out the shows. Let me tell you, next time, I want to work the Saturday! It was so busy, it would have been so much fun!

I loved watching the burlesque shows, they’re always fun to watch. And the drag queen again so much fun, they were so sassy, the crowed loved them. I think next year I’ll go check everything out on Firday and see if I can work the Saturday. Hopefully I have a car by then because busing was awful!

Here’s some of the pictures from my studio performing.

There’s also some funny but inappropriate pictures that I don’t want to show on my blog but if you’re interested in seeing them then you can click HERE! Remember they’re NSFW!

New Stretch and 31 Grilled Cheeses You Need to Try in your Lifetime!

It’s Wednesday! My favorite day of the week! Why? Well if you didn’t know by now, I’ll tell you, it’s Pole Day! And having missed last week because of the car accident, I’m majorly looking forward to tonight. Minus the fact I have to drive because my best friend is gone to Florida for 10 days, which is the worst! I miss her!

So super excited to go to pole, also haven’t seen my other pole lady in 2 weeks! Which is ridiculous! We have decided to make shirts for Friday, which is Sexapalooza, where we’ll be working the 3Sixty Dance & Fitness (Which is my home studio) booth. So today I’m going on a hunt for some black tank tops that I can put a design on the front with those iron on pages that you print off. I’ll show you guys on Friday during my weekly Video Blog!

Today is also new stretch day! And todays’ stretch is THIS ONE!

1607129_10152231778012464_1625565706_n

Okay so I don’t know the name of this stretch, what I do know is that it’s pretty close to the One-Legged King Pigeon Pose variation in yoga, so we could go with that.

This stretch lengthens your quadriceps and hip flexors!

So try adding this stretch to your daily stretching routine, today it’s going into mine.

Before I leave I want to share something that a friend posted on Facebook because it is amazing. Amazing for a foodie like myself!

The Journey to Pole that Ended in a Ditch

So I had an eventful night, I had been so excited to go to pole all day, unfortunately for my friend and I, we weren’t going to make it there last night.

She too had been very excited to go to pole because it was her last class before her vacation in which she will miss two other classes. We were driving there and it was snowing, the roads were messy on this one stretch in between two large fields. Her car began to pull to the right a bit and our tires left the tracks left by cars before us. As soon as our wheels hit the fresh snow she lost control. We swerved to the left then back to the right so hard that it spun the car around and we wound up backwards in the ditch at the side of the road.

001cpy

It was a pretty hard impact, well at least it felt like it. No air bags were deployed, it did whip us around pretty bad. But luckily she has a tiny car because it was no match for the snow bank at the side. I fear if we were a bigger car, like my van, we probably would have wound up on our side. Although with the angle we were at it was pretty much the side anyways.

I am irked very much by the person behind us though! If I had been driving behind someone who spun out like that, the first thing I’d do is pull over and make sure people were okay. But no, that person just drove on by. I’ve been behind an accident before where someone rear ended someone, and I didn’t feel the need to stop then, just cautiously go around them. But if someone were to spin out in front of me into a ditch, I would immediately pull over to check on them.

Luckily someone coming the opposite way stopped and checked on us, he tried to see if we could push out, but it was impossible, the tires just spun on the snow like it was ice. After realizing that wasn’t possible I let him go on his way because it was just a matter of calling a tow truck then.

The first place we called told us we’d be waiting 2-3 hours, my friend and I were both like “to hell with that!” so we called the next place, 20-30 minutes, much better. In that time multiple people stopped to check on us, it made me realize how many caring people there are in this world. It was freezing out, they had no obligation to stop like the person who saw us crash should have, but they did. One woman even came out of her car with a hair dye cap on, because she was worried about us. It was very touching that people put themselves aside to care for others.

It was about a 40 min wait for the tow truck, during the time we laughed and joked and even played a fun game on her cell phone.

I accidentally sent my mom a very cryptic text just before my phone died, I’m the worst daughter ever!

Screenshot_2014-01-30-09-10-04

Yup that’s what I sent her before my phone died, the last thing I sent her was ‘die’, Because I’m smart… but I did manage to call my boyfriend before it died so she called him and he explained. So it wasn’t the worst but I can only imagine the panic she was in because her daughter was just in an accident, I’m sure I’d be flipping too if it was my daughter.

Tow finally pulled us out and I waited in the car while my friend went and paid him. When we finally started to go, it was already 9:30, we had officially missed pole. That was officially the first class I’ve missed, and I’m telling you, nothing can keep me from pole, other than obviously a ditch we can’t get out of!

When we started to drive home, we were going about 40 because we were still shaken up. But of course that wasn’t the end of our scare for the night, literally less than a minute after we started driving again a coyote ran right in front of us across the road, must have been only a couple meters away. I proceed to yell “ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME!” Like we hadn’t had enough scare for the night. We needed one last one for the road! Fantastic!

As unlucky as it was to wind up in the ditch, in reality we are pretty damn lucky. We are lucky that there was no oncoming traffic because we swerved right into the opposite lane before spinning back into ours. We are also lucky that the snow bank stopped us from flipping. We are lucky that the car still ran because it was damn cold last night, especially in the middle of a field. We’re lucky we had cellphones, even though mine died. We’re lucky that we crashed with each other and not alone and we’re definitely lucky it wasn’t more serious.

And I have to say, my friend is lucky she crashed with me because when my adrenaline starts I make jokes and just be generally silly, I don’t panic, I don’t stress out, so I think that helped her a lot. But I was lucky that I crashed with her because if it wasn’t her I probably would have panicked and stressed, but I knew I couldn’t because that would make the situation worse for her and that was the last thing I wanted to do.

All in all, although I’m upset about missing pole after being excited about it all day, I still consider myself lucky that it wasn’t worse than getting stuck in a ditch. If I had to get stuck in a ditch with someone I’m glad it was my best friend.

Watch for my post tomorrow, it’s week 1 of Front Splits Friday! It’ll be our starting pictures to compare our progress to weeks from now! I think we’ll compare every 4 weeks, and hopefully we’ll get them down in no time!

Don’t forget to check out my new official Facebook page to get all your updates from my blog, pole videos, pole humor and just general pole fun! Click HERE

Are you up for the Challenge?

Good morning beautiful people! I don’t know about you but dear god I’m tired. I wish I could take some pictures in Pilates to show you guys how hard it gets but the teacher is such a hard ass (with a hard ass, seriously you should see this woman’s butt) that there wouldn’t be time to take pictures. It’s only an hour class but I’m telling you it’s the fastest hour ever because you’re working so hard and consistently doing something.

Pole goes by fast because it is fun for me, I wish it was longer, I love it. But Pilates goes by fast just because it is non-stop, and I’m not hurting now, but I have to give it until like 3 to see just how sore I really am since it’s a night time class. We worked our abs really hard but I’d like to think my abs are already pretty strong, but covered in a layer of fat, they’re pretty much hiding!

Alright people a new thing I’m trying out starting this Friday, not only will Friday be video day but it’ll also be stretch day. I am challenging all of you to get your front splits with me! Front Split Friday, yup, I know, I’m a genius, you don’t have to tell me! It’ll keep going until I get my front splits down, posting updates every Friday, and I would love to see all your progress as well!

Every Friday tweet me or instagram me your progress photos!

Easy right? WRONG! This is going to take some dedication, do you have it in you to keep at this for weeks? But I believe in you, and I believe in me too! This is something I really want and need to get down if I want to get some more advanced moves. This is something that I will work at every day, because in reality it only takes like 15 minutes a day, and I think I can give up 15 minutes to my flexibility. But remember, never stretch cold muscles! So try jogging in place to your favorite song and when it hits the chorus you hike up those knees and do some high knees until the chorus ends.

Every Wednesday I’ll give you the stretch of the week. But first lets start you off with some basic stretches. Click HERE to go to my blog post about increasing your lower flexibility.

And the new stretch of the week is…. The Hip Flexor Stretch

Stretch

I love this stretch, it feels great on my legs, especially after flipping upside down so much and relying on my legs to keep me there.

So I’ve been going on a sushi making spree lately, well… attempt, lets just call it an attempt. I didn’t have the proper “equipment” to make actual maki, and by that I mean my bamboo mat snapped, and I had no knifes sharp enough to slice through seaweed, yea you heard me right! My knives can cut through chicken, through steak, but god forbid they cut through a tiny thin piece of seaweed!

I wound up giving up on the maki and making some hand rolls.

029

But I also invested in a new bamboo mat, as well as a new sushi knife meant for slicing sashimi so I figure it has to be able to slice through the seaweed! I will be trying it out tonight! I’ll let you know, sushi so darn delicious.

009

Well, until Friday mes amours! Get started on those stretches! Say it with me…

Parties, Olympics and…Lemons?

Hope you had a wonderful weekend my lovely blog readers! I had a very busy weekend, wasn’t able to pole at all. It’s my daughters 4th birthday tomorrow and with such a large family she had a birthday party both Saturday and Sunday, and today she’s bringing cupcakes to preschool and tomorrow is her actual birthday so we’re doing activities then as well. It’s the first child/grandchild syndrome, she’s spoiled to all hell!

071

Saturday I was so tired after setting up the party, having the party and then cleaning up after the party that I was just too exhausted to pole, and in bed by 7:30. Sunday night I went to my mom’s for the party but I was feeling ill most of the time so when we got home at 6 I was in bed out of fear of missing pilates and pole. So now I’m downing cold FX like it’s the holy grail of medicine! I have yet to miss a pole class since level 1 so I don’t plan on starting now!

So excited news in the pole world, Olga Trifonova, an 11 year old Russian Pole Dancer who won a Russian Talent show will be performing at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Olympics. She is an amazing talented young lady, with unbelievable skills.

This’ll be a big step in the direction of getting pole dancing into the Olympics. Apparently before a sport is accepted in the committee showcases it to see how people react to it. In my opinion this’ll open a lot of people’s eyes to the fact that pole dancing doesn’t have to be sexual, and often times is not. It’s an art, and an incredible display of gymnastics. I full heartedly believe that after this pole dancing will be on its way to being accepted into the Olympics. And while I feel like I’ll be too old to compete and not at the level that some of these people are at, maybe it’s something my daughter could one day compete in. I would be proud to watch her compete in pole dancing.

It’s about time people separated it from its erotic counterpart of stripping in clubs. So I don’t know about you but I’ll be glued to the T.V this February 7th to watch pole dancing pretty much make its debut into the everyday world of people who had no idea it could be such hard work and beauty.

Hopefully I’m able to get back into pole tonight, I find myself getting an itch for pole if I haven’t done it in a couple of days. I look at my pole and whimper because all I want to do is practice my routine and moves.

Today I’m going to leave you with a delicious new recipe I’ve learned over the weekend.

Slim Lemon Squares

Ingredients
Nonstick cooking spray
3/4 cup all-purpose flour plus 2 tablespoons
2/3 cup granulated sugar plus 3 tablespoons
1/2 stick cold butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes

1 egg white
1/4 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon water
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon powdered sugar

Directions
1. Coat an 8-x-8-x-2-inch baking pan with nonstick spray; set pan aside.
2. In a small mixing bowl, combine 3/4 cup flour and 3 tablespoons sugar; cut in butter until crumbly. Pat mixture onto the bottom of prepared pan. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 15 minutes.
3. Meanwhile, in the same bowl, combine egg and egg white. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until frothy.
