A poleitical post, because it’s the only type of politics I like

Did you catch that typo? GOOD! It was meant to be there because Monday was a super exciting day. Not only was it the day I got my new pole but it was also the day that I got my brand new purple Poleitical Clothing shorts!

1461783_10152056552047464_2004758349_nAren’t they sexy! And isn’t my cat ridiculous, it was a ‘if I fits I sits’ situation, but Méla is relatively small so fitting isn’t too hard for her.

This isn’t the first time I’ve ordered from Poleitical Clothing either, I’ve also acquired the black version of these shorts and I have to say they are probably one of the most comfortable shorts I’ve worn to pole. They breath easy, they’re light and tight, and they’re high enough to give you lots of room for grip.

I sent them a thank you yesterday because one of my favorite things about this company is the hand written notes that come with your package. And no it’s not one of those “hey look they sent us a hand written note, oh wait, that’s blue printer ink in a hand written font” No no, these are legit ‘hand written with a pen and even include your name’ notes! The fact they take the time to do that with all the other orders they have is one of the main reasons that I’ll keep ordering from them, I love the love that’s put into it!

Now I was also lucky enough to get to ask them a few questions and even get a speedy response so as I could include it in todays blog. Continue on below because I just adore these two girls, they are just that energy that you would love to have around you all the time!

I noticed that it’s two of you that run the company, are you two pole friends or just long time friends, maybe both?

We actually did not know each other very well before we started the company! We are both students at The Pole Garage in Santa Monica, CA – we met through a Facebook group for students of The Pole Garage and started chatting about how much we wanted t shirts with “Keep Calm and Pole Dance” on them – next thing we knew, we were meeting at a Starbucks and plotting our venture! Courtney comes from a background in the fashion industry, and Danielle comes from an acting and art background, so the partnership really plays to our individual strengths!

Are you both avid pole dancers/fitness enthusiasts? If so how often are you in a studio or at home working on it

We both LOVE pole. Like, obsessed, watching-videos-all-the-time, stalking-the-internet-for-new-moves obsessed. But, our lives are busy, so we try to get into the studio once or twice a week. Courtney does have a pole at home, but Danielle no longer does (she’s looking forward to getting a new one!).

I’ve also noticed on your fb page it mentions that you were started in 2012, is that just the fb page or are you running a fairly young company?

We are a fairly young company! We did start in mid-2012, and our official debut of our shorts and tanks was at the 2012 California Pole Dance Championship, in October of 2012. We’ve grown steadily, and we absolutely love seeing orders come in from all across the world! The Pole Community is so tremendous – we’re very lucky to be a part of it! All of our artwork is original, as are our logos and tag lines – we have such a blast dreaming up fun ideas for our line!

What is the furthest country you’ve shipped to? (or any really random countries you would not have expected to get orders from)

Oh, wow…We just shipped an order to Monaco, which was a new country for us, but we have shipped almost everywhere but Asia (hey, Asia – call us!). We’ve got a lot of fans from Australia and all over Europe – France, Germany, England – and we’ve shipped to Brazil, Russia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, South Africa…it’s so amazing to see the response from so far away! Thank goodness for Google Translate! 🙂 We’re just now branching out into wholesale, too, and we’re excited to see the response!

I’ve seen some photos of your booths set up, what’s the next convention you’re planning on attending if any?

We are based in Los Angeles, CA, so most of the shows we have sold at are centered in the city. We are still deciding on whether we’ll be doing Pole Show LA in January, or Pacific Pole Championships in March, but ultimately, we’d love to branch out and make it to Pole Expo, especially since it’s in Vegas – very close to LA! We’ll definitely get the word out if we can swing Pole Expo – it’ll be all over our Social Media pages (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram – we’re very big on interacting on Instagram – the pole community on there is amazing), and we’ll do a newsletter blast, too!

A special thanks to you ladies for taking the time to answer my questions, I loved hearing from you, and you can expect to hear from me soon because I have my eyes set on the Poleitical Clothing tote! I need a new bag to bring to pole!

For someone like myself looking to start a pole line of items (Not clothes, I’ll leave that up to these girls because they’re doing a fantastic job) it really gives me a glimmer of hope that I may be able to get somewhere some day. They’ve accomplished so much from starting in 2012 it really is amazing, hard work and a dream can pay off.

This is one of the main things I’ll be selling in the upcoming weeks. Pole pillows, they’re incredibly soft and cuddly. So keep an eye on this blog for updates on how you can get your own Pole Pillow!

Adieu mes amours! Until tomorrow!

It’s here! It’s finally here!

Okay well I only had to wait less than a week but you know that irritating scenario when you order something right before the weekend and Saturday and Sunday are lazy jerks that don’t count as business days!… Well I had to wait extra long because of that. So what was 4 days really felt like 4 months to me. It was pretty much like my Christmas when they delivered it.

Now obviously I have to move the coffee table, also not pictured is my dining room table which also has to get moved, but really I look at this as more exercise! It probably does very little but every little bit counts.

So I have plenty of room, I can even preform the spiral without kicking anything so it’s the perfect spot. My only problem now is stick, if you live in Canada you know how dry and cold it gets as winter approaches. Which in turn makes your skin dry, which as a pole dancer is probably one of the worst things that could happen.

I attempted the thigh hold  and I just slid right on down the pole, my legs had zero grip! I recently purchased a leg/limb grip called Dew Point Pole Dance Grip. Once it comes in I’ll give you a little review and tell you just how well it works in a cold Canadian environment. I also ordered hand grip from X pole, which I’ve used before, it works well enough. It does help but again it’s supposed to help your hands with being sweaty and having no grip, which isn’t the problem here, the problem is having no grip from dry skin.

Scorpio Pillow

I’ve finally started my work to open my Etsy shop, it’ll be a lot of pole related items (obviously). But you know this blog is directed not only at pole dancers/fitness enthusiasts, it’s also directed at the polers who are parents. So I think I may be including some kits toys as well, plushies more than anything.

I’ll also be designing some clay figurines of certain moves like the Scorpio and ayesha. But those will take a little longer to make.

Sorry to cut this post short today but I’ve got a lot of errands to run so it’s a miracle I got it up in the first place. Until tomorrow mes amours!

All I want for Christmas is my two bottles of grip!

Alright, I’ve had very little sleep, which really is normal, but last night was worse. My poor little girl is a little sick right now and with her stuffy nose it was impossible for her to sleep. She kept waking up randomly whimpering, it was so consistent to the point that she was in my bed and my love had to go sleep in her bed because he gets up at 6 am to get ready for work. So all of this makes me wildly edgy this morning, and I made the worst mistake… I got on the internet. Feel free to scroll on down to the next paragraph to avoid the incoming rant. On FB a local radio station had linked some website that is petitioning to bring back “merry Christmas” … cause you know… no one EVVVERRR says that anymore (Please feel free to wipe up the dripping sarcasm from that sentence). You know where they don’t say it… businesses, because Canada is such a diverse place with many religions it makes sense to do so, but outside of a business, say it to your hearts content. You can wish me a happy Hanukkah,a happy Kwanzaa, or even Merry Christmas and you know what, I’m not offended because I am just thankful that you took the time of day to wish me good tidings… What irritates me the most about this whole BS site though is the fact that there are such large scale natural disasters happening right now and people are concerned with a saying. If you’re going to reach out to people with a cause, how about make it a positive cause to help people instead of something so petty as a couple of words. Anyways END RANT. FIN. I’m done.

Anyways back to more positive things, like pole! With the winter seasons approaching fast the air is getting more dry and it is getting much colder (at least where I live, in Canada where winter lasts 6 months). But thankfully my teacher at pole keeps a bottle of grip ready for people who need it, but I feel bad using it so I’m going to look into purchasing a couple of bottles, one I’ll keep at home and one will be in my work out bag for pole. At the moment it’s my legs that are suffering the most, obviously from my post yesterday my hands aren’t having an issue yet. When ever I try to do the lay back I slide right down, so gracefully, straight on my bum.

The lay back

The lay back

Now I learned this move as the lay back, but what some people call the lay back, I know as the cross ankle release. I know confusing right, there’s so many different moves with so many different names. So you can see how I would just slide down when your legs are dry and have no grip. What makes this even worse is that this move is in our routine!

There is a spray you can get for your legs to help, I’m not to sure where to get it, that’ll take some research. But hand grip is easy to get, I can get it from say x-pole but I’m going to try and find a site that offers a little more to Canadians. Although my first choice for pole shopping will always be x-pole.

Today I’ll be making some pole related crafts, I’m hoping to open a little Etsy shop. I’m not going to tell you guys with what just yet, you’ll have to wait and see. But right now it’s hard for me to find a job because I can only get something part time since day care is like 800$ a month here. I have to say single working moms are like super heroes to me, they are truely amazing and don’t get enough credit. Even working moms are amazing, it takes a lot to leave your child for the better of your child, although some women are just dying to get to back to work, it was the opposite with me. I didn’t want to leave Alice at all, she was such a bright light in my world that I wanted her around me all the time.

So no recipes today, but I will leave you with this, go see Thor! I went and saw it last night, it was fantastic! See you on Monday mes amours!

Thor ❤ Epic movie

Dear Mother of Pole my muscles hurt!

Good morning! Although I’d really like to just head back to bed. Last night was my pole class and today I am dying, I did not take it easy and the palms of my hands are suffering because of it. While I love my studio, I’m having mixed feelings about brass poles. While super sticky is fantastic for upside down holds, it’s killer on my hands when we practice our routine (which is to Tear Away by Drowning Pool)

Ouchy!

Ouchy!

See this is what happens, I don’t know if you can see that well but on the palms of my hands I have two nice blisters from the brass pole. I’ll wear them like medals for now though, because I got them from working my ass off on the pole! Didn’t learn anything new last night, although we did practice our Scorpios, Gemini, thigh hold.

OH but I did do my first cross ankle release (but didn’t get a picture of it) with some help from my teacher. It’s another move that really does require some good ol’ lady balls. Not to  mention some sticky thighs and a tight butt! If someone reading this doesn’t know I’m talking about pole fitness this would sound extremely and unnecessarily dirty.

Alice doing The Tree

So this morning is gymnastics time for my little one! She’s quite excited. I really am hoping that when she’s a little older she will get into pole fitness. I see those young girls from Europe and Russia doing it and it’s like an art, it’s really like ballet/gymnastics and I think it’s beautiful. Hopefully by the time Alice is that age it’ll be more mainstream in Canada and she’ll be able to do competitions. I’ll just teach her until then.

At the moment she has gymnastics once a week, if she likes it maybe she’ll continue it and do it more. But next winter she will also be signed up for hockey and then soccer this summer.

I come from a very athletic family, my mom was like ‘the sport girl’ when she was in high school (which I wasn’t in anyway, I was super competitive in gym though, but I was more of a trouble maker in high school). My little sister played hockey for a long time, my brother did as well and now just plays casually. I was big into soccer and basketball, as well as swimming when I was young enough that my parents could force me into it, don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it, but my interests shifted as I got older. Pole is the first physical activity that has really peaked my interest in years, which in turn lead to me loving Pilates, and HIIT (High intensity interval training.) I even tried out running this summer, but found it really hurt my shins, I don’t think I know how to run right to be honest, which was something that I never thought was possible. I though… you just run…right? WRONG… there’s actually a certain way to run so you don’t injure yourself.

The Extended Spiderman (Aka the extended butterfly)

One of my favorite things about pole is dress up week, which is coming up in only a month. It will obviously be Christmas themed and if I have the money by then I have the perfect outfit to wear. But it’s like 65$ so I don’t think it’s worth it.

But don’t fret! I have a back up outfit, I’m just hoping to slim down a little more before wearing it. Also December 1st I’ll be starting a 12 week shift your diet to healthy eating. I’m hoping since it’s 12 weeks I’ll be able to stick to it afterwards and it’ll become more natural and it’ll be something I can carry on long term, because lets face it, I’m addicted to sweets. The only “eating out” I do is sushi, which really isn’t that bad for you, you just have to be picky and stay away from the deep fried deliciousness. But I love raw salmon, especially spicy salmon so it’s not so bad.

Well I have to leave soon to take her to gymnastics so I’m going to leave you guys with a delicious frozen treat that’s not unhealthy but should still be consumed in moderation! A recipe from one of my favorite sites, http://www.paleomg.com Go check it out, from breakfast to dinner, to delicious desserts, it’s by far one of my favorite websites for recipes!

Chewy Pecan Brittle

Ingredients

Instructions
  1. Place a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add a tablespoon of coconut oil then add your pecans to the pan. Toss around to coat in the oil and keep moving to help roast your pecans without burning them.
  3. When your pecans begin to become fragrant and browned a bit, add your honey and maple syrup. Mix well.
  4. Once your sugar begins to thicken just a little, add your coconut oil and coconut cream concentrate. Keep mixing with a rubber spatula to make sure your coconut cream concentrate doesn’t burn.
  5. Then add your cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
  6. When everything is well combined, turn burner on low and let simmer for about 3-4 minutes to thicken just a bit. (it won’t get super thick, so don’t expect that)
  7. While your mixture is thickening, line a 8×8 glass baking dish with parchment paper, pressing the paper down into the sides of the dish.
  8. Then pour your mixture into the parchment-lined baking dish and use a spoon to spread out the pecans throughout the mixture.
  9. Place in the freezer and let freeze for an hour or more. When you pull it from the freezer, it should be completely hardened but still have a chewiness to it.
  10. Use a knife to break it into pieces.
  11. Store in the freezer until serving!

I’d just like to say how thankful I am that wordpress periodically saves your posts because my laptop decided it was a good time to shut down everything without asking me so it could do an update…. SO THAT GOT TURNED OFF!!! *RAGE* Until tomorrow, ciao!
